Radiator Replacement and Repair — Common Volkswagen Maintenance Services at Carter VW in Seattle
Under the hood of your Volkswagen, coolant circulates through the engine, drawing out heat and helping the engine perform at its best. But once that heat has entered the coolant, it's got to go somewhere. That somewhere is the radiator — a large array of fins at the front of your vehicle. Its large surface area spreads out the coolant, and allows ambient air to chill the coolant so it can be recirculated through the engine and repeat the process over again.
If your radiator becomes damaged, the coolant may not exchange enough heat at the radiator. This can cause your engine to overheat! As we've written before, an overheating engine is a major problem. It can even destroy itself if temperatures climb too high! At Carter Volkswagen, we're pleased to offer high-quality radiator repair and replacements services. Visit today if your engine is starting to run too hot, and let cooler heads prevail.
How did my Radiator Become Damaged?
If you've been involved in a fender-bender, what looks like minor cosmetic damage could actually be concealing damage to the radiator. The radiator is located in the very front of most modern cars, just behind the front grille. The grille allows air to flow across the radiator. If the radiator becomes dented or bent, coolant might not flow properly or could begin to leak from the radiator.
Additionally, if the coolant hasn't been flushed from the system regularly, rust, corrosion and other debris could collect in the system and clog the radiator.
In most cases, the wise move is to simply replace the radiator with a new, identical one. However, in the case of some small leaks, an epoxy could be used to plug up a leak for an inexpensive (though perhaps temporary) repair.
