Seattle Compact Car Comparisons: 2019 Volkswagen Jetta VS 2019 Toyota Corolla
It hasn't been out long, but the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta is already making a big impression — and winning some awards, too! It was recently named one of the cars on the WardsAuto 10 Best UX list. That award honors cars that provide a simple, intuitive and powerful user experience. The all-new 2019 Jetta makes it easy to use modern smartphone connectivity and infotainment features. In fact, it might just be the most connected compact car on the road. It's an even better value than the 2019 Toyota Corolla!
We'll prove it to you on this page. As you'll soon see, the Corolla simply lacks many of the safety, comfort and performance advantages of the all-new 2019 VW Jetta. That's why the Jetta is a better value for your money. You'll find more details below.
2019 VW Jetta vs. 2019 Toyota Corolla — Interior Features
At the entry level, both these cars offer similar interior capacity and standard features — but the top-of-the-line Volkswagen Jetta is anything but standard. It's equipped with features you simply won't find on any 2019 Toyota Corolla! For instance, only the 2019 VW Jetta is available with ventilated and heated leather seats. You can't have any seat ventilation or leather-trimmed seating at all on the Toyota Corolla. Neither can you have dual-zone automatic climate control; Climatronic® dual-zone climate control is available as an upgrade on the 2019 VW Jetta.
And only the Volkswagen Jetta can be equipped with customizable ambient interior lighting. Choose from one of ten colors to match your mood, your shoes, your bag, the weather, the location, your favorite sports team or just match the lighting inside to the exterior paint color. It's up to you — if you change your mind, the intuitive infotainment controls make changing your settings a snap.
2019 VW Jetta vs. 2019 Toyota Corolla — Infotainment Technology
The all-new 2019 Volkswagen Jetta now comes standard with smartphone connectivity through Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™. These softwares make it a cinch to connect your compatible phone for navigation, music streaming, hands-free calls and texts and so much more. On the 2019 Toyota Corolla, you'll be limited to bluetooth smartphone functionality only.
You can also add available technologies like a Beats Audio premium audio system and an available 8" touchscreen display with built-in turn-by-turn navigation.
2019 VW Jetta vs. 2019 Toyota Corolla — Performance Specs
Topping out at 140 max horsepower and 128 lb/ft of torque, the 2019 Toyota Corolla won't give you the fun, engaging drive you'll get from the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta. The VW, by contrast, provides 147 horsepower and a whopping 184 lb/ft of torque. That makes it seriously quick off the line!
But the performance advantages don't end there. Looking for efficiency? The 2019 VW Jetta achieves up to 40 highway MPG. Only the 2019 Toyota Corolla LE Eco is that efficient, and it's not nearly as powerful. And for improved handling and control, the 2019 VW Jetta provides standard four-wheel disc brakes. The Toyota Corolla has drum brakes on the rear wheels, an older technology.
2019 VW Jetta vs. 2019 Toyota Corolla — Safety
One of the safety advantages of the 2019 VW Jetta is the Park Distance Control system, which makes it easy to squeeze into tight parking spaces without damage. Audible tones alert you as you approach another vehicle or other obstruction, so you can get as close as you need to for parking maneuvers, without getting too close for comfort — or the other car's paint job. Parking sensors aren't available on the 2019 Toyota Corolla.
Safety is all about peace of mind, so we're also excited to tell you about the Volkswagen People First Warranty! It's America's best bumper-to-bumper warranty, with coverage for six years/72,000 miles. The basic Toyota bumper-to-bumper warranty coverage lasts just three years/36,000 miles. That means Volkswagen stands behind the all-new Jetta twice as long as Toyota stands behind the Corolla.
2019 VW Jetta vs. 2019 Toyota Corolla — Driver Assistance
While both these vehicles are available with advanced driver assist features — to intelligently protect you on the road — you'll find more are available on the Volkswagen Jetta. The 2019 Toyota Corolla provides pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist features. The 2019 VW Jetta also offers these available features, plus a blind spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert. These two important safety systems are absent from the Toyota Corolla.
