Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak Twin-Engine Electric Vehicle

No one would deny that Volkswagen is active in motorsports, but there’s one race the brand has opted out of since it failed to take first place in the late 1980s: The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Not only is VW changing its tune and participating in the 2018 race, but the automaker built the I.D. R Pikes Peak specifically to take on the EV record. This twin-engine, fully-electric vehicle is a supercar that produces 680 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque to get a 0-60 acceleration time of 2.25 seconds. It’s effectively producing Formula One figures, but is that enough to break the record. (more…)
