No one would deny that Volkswagen is active in motorsports, but there’s one race the brand has opted out of since it failed to take first place in the late 1980s: The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Not only is VW changing its tune and participating in the 2018 race, but the automaker built the I.D. R Pikes Peak specifically to take on the EV record. This twin-engine, fully-electric vehicle is a supercar that produces 680 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque to get a 0-60 acceleration time of 2.25 seconds. 2016 Global Rallycross Driver’s Championship VW–Scott Speed

This past weekend in Los Angeles, VW Andretti continued its racing success when driver Scott Speed won his second consecutive Global Rallycross Driver’s Championship. In addition to the season finale clincher, the VW Andretti team wrapped up the Red Bull GRC Manufacturer’s Championship earlier this year in Seattle and earned a total of eight wins and 14 podium finishes in 2016.  (more…)

2016 Global Rallycross: Tanner Foust & VW Beetle GRC Wins

In 2015, the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross racing team achieved incredible success for the Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship, with a series-high six race wins, the driver’s championship for Scott Speed and overall team accolades for the season. With the 2016 championship kicking off on May 22 in Phoenix, expectations where sky high for Volkswagen Andretti, and the team delivered with Tanner Foust taking his VW Beetle GRC to wins in both races at the series opener.  (more…)
