Most people are probably are unaware of this, but Volkswagen indirectly played a small part in the founding of Nike, with the footwear and sports apparel company starting out of the back of a Volkswagen Bus in the 1960s with the name Blue Ribbon Sports. To commemorate this and to celebrate the re-opening of the first Blue Ribbon Sports store in Santa Monica, California, Volkswagen built a custom I.D. BUZZ Cargo Van with Blue Ribbon Sports styling enhancements. (more…)

Volkswagen of America has announced that the production of both the Volkswagen Golf Alltrack and Volkswagen Golf SportWagen will end after the 2019 model year. Due to the rising demand in SUVs across America, Volkswagen will end production of these two Golf models in December of this year. How long until cars are 3D printed?

It may seem obvious that 3D printing would become a key part of manufacturing in any industry, but the development is slow simply because 3D printing itself is slow. Or at least it has been. Volkswagen is working with HP and GKN Powder Metallurgy to produce a 3D printer that can create parts at a pace of 50 times what the current technology is capable of. Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak Twin-Engine Electric Vehicle

No one would deny that Volkswagen is active in motorsports, but there’s one race the brand has opted out of since it failed to take first place in the late 1980s: The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Not only is VW changing its tune and participating in the 2018 race, but the automaker built the I.D. R Pikes Peak specifically to take on the EV record. This twin-engine, fully-electric vehicle is a supercar that produces 680 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque to get a 0-60 acceleration time of 2.25 seconds. It’s effectively producing Formula One figures, but is that enough to break the record. (more…)
