No one would deny that Volkswagen is active in motorsports, but there’s one race the brand has opted out of since it failed to take first place in the late 1980s: The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Not only is VW changing its tune and participating in the 2018 race, but the automaker built the I.D. R Pikes Peak specifically to take on the EV record. This twin-engine, fully-electric vehicle is a supercar that produces 680 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque to get a 0-60 acceleration time of 2.25 seconds. Both the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas and 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan are new options for the model year, but with their introduction came a side effect: where are the smaller VW SUVs?  The old Tiguan became the Tiguan Limited, and was set for discontinuation once inventory ran low, while the premium-focused Touareg was also discontinued. Though it’s true that the Tiguan is available in a two-row option, what about a high-powered, premium five-passenger SUV? Well, for 2019 the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport is going into production.
